1st kindergarten of Euosmos Thessaloniki Greece

  • Valsamaki Despina, Mindrou Eleni and the kids of the 1st  kindergarten of Euosmos in Thessaloniki choose to sing the Moraitika Christmas Carols “Χριστούγεννα Πρωτούγεννα».

    Here is the song!!

    Carols from Peloponnese

    Christmash, first birth,

    First celebration of the year.

    Come, see and learn

    that Jesus Christ is born.

    He is born and raised

    with honey and milk.

Honey is eaten by the lords

    and milk by the masters

and with “melissovotano” (kind of jerb)

    ladies are having bath.

    We didn’t come here

    for eat and drink

    but because we love you

we came to sing to tou.

    Give us the cock

give us the hen as well.

give us also five or six eggs

    to go to another palace.

It concerns a traditional song which comes from a specific area of Southern Greece (Peloponnese). It's about the joyous message of Jesus Christ's birth which is brought, door to door, in villages by local children. At the end, the little singers demand a treat by the host of the house. Back then, hosts used to offer traditional homemade sweets as a treat but in the lyrics, children ask for eggs and domestic animals for fun. Nowadays, hosts offer money to those who sing Christmas carols.
