Liceul Teoretic "Gheorghe Munteanu Murgoci" (Partner School)

Our High School was first established in 1955 but received this name in 1990. It bears the name of a famous Romanian geologist. At the moment 500 students are studying here under the guidance of 30 teachers. We are not a very large institution but we love our work and our students. Our high school is a general education one, in which students can major either in science, mathematics, computers, history or philology.
Our high school has different labs such as chemistry, physics, Romanian.  We also have a large library and a Documentation Center where students and people from our community can come and read or surf the internet. 
 Our students have the opportunity of studying two foreign languages: English and French. They can also study as an optional the Italian language.
Our school environment is characterised by ethnic diversity. We have students that are of Italian, Russian (Lippovan), Turkish and Gypsy minority. They are part of heterogenous classes and add to our institution a special character and we, the majority enjoy their knowledge and customs. The Turkish community is probably the best represented in our area, as it consists of 165 families( about 400 people). They have remained in this area and even have their own mosque (since 1860) built by Mestan Aga. The Turkish community is very old, a fact proven by the 16th century cemetery which is also a national monument. Despite having such a long history of ethnic mixture, there are students who sometimes show intolerance to these minority groups and things get out of control. We want to find the best methods to teach these students values such as respect and tolerance outside the boundaries of the classroom. We intend to show them what each of the students bullied or disrespected feels whenever such incidents happen. Therefore, due to both our ethnic mixture and our needs to deal with such issues promptly, we believe that we can bring an important contribution to the project.
 We also have a choir, a traditional dancing group and  a small drama group which on different occasions perform for the other students or for the community.
