    “The swallow is a refugee or an immigrant?”

    Collaborative tale: "The girl and the swallow"

    Presentation of our work at the 2nd Student Conference in Grevena  (From Thanasis and Katerina)

    Katerina: Dear colleagues and schoolmates, teachers and teachers,

    Thanasis: We are the students of the 6th grade of the Second Primary School of Grevena. This year, we were given the opportunity to participate in e-twinning in a very remarkable program: "The swallow is a refugee or an immigrant?". So we had the opportunity to study the refugee issue. Over the last few years, Europe has been involved, and all over the world. At this point, we must add that Greece's geographic position is such that it is a refuge for many thousands of refugees.

    Katerina: As a result of this initiative, we have developed many interesting actions. We first collected items of clothing that were sent to the refugee camps. We have also dedicated ourselves to writing stories starring refugees and swallows. Then we painted these lovable birds and constructed simulations of their nests with clay in collaboration with the club of northern Pindos.

    Thanasis: In the framework of the same program we exchanged with a school of Cyprus refugees made from paper, which we hosted in our homes. This has enabled us to understand their needs, which we have placed on labels on paper refugees.

    Katerina: The teleconferences with other schools working on the program were frequent and valuable as we exchanged views.

    Thanasis: So during the year we learned and did a lot. One of the activities of this program was also a collaborative tale that we created in collaboration with the students of the first elementary school in Grevena.

    Katerina: More specifically:

    Thanasis: We started with writing the fairy tale to the teams. After we wrote the fairy tales together, then we read them in the classroom to choose the best. But because we did not like it too much, we decided to write each and every one of them by a fairy tale. We read them in the classroom and we all decided that the best is the fairy tale titled "The Girl with the Swallow" by Katerina Zachou.

    Katerina: So this fairy tale we sent it to the students of the 1st class of the first elementary school of Grevena to read it, illustrate it and translate it into English.

    Thanasis: We did the same with the fairy tale that students sent us from the first elementary school of Grevena entitled: "The magic of the fairies, that is, we read it, illustrated it and translated it into English and we all sent it back In the first elementary school of Grevena.

    Katerina: When we took the paintings and the translation of our fairy tale from the first elementary school of Grevena, we processed it digitally, recorded it, made video, e-book and uploaded it online in Greek and English.

    Thanasis: You will watch this video now, along with dramatizing the fairy tale by our classmates. Thank you very much!

    Within the eTwinning project: «The swallow is a refugee or an immigrant?»,  created an event on: "Winter clothing, school supplies and toys for young refugees in Grevena". Already the event has great impact as 122 teachers (so far) have signed up to it, while there were many positive comments on various factors and SMEs, and also given numerous interviews to newspapers, television, Internet and radio, as in STAR TV https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoeqcMyrd9I, the Athens News Agency, the EPA Larissa radio ET3 in Orange radio, the journal of Journalists, radio ET3 http: //webtv.ert .gr / ert3 / 24okt2016-ego-ke-esi-mazi-ston-102-fm-tis-ert3 / (you will hear us in the 12th minute ...) in Television important ET3 http://webtv.ert.gr/ert3/11noe2016-kathimerina-ke-apla/ (we will see our the1: 23: 00), the NRA Kozani, in many site and social media.

    1)   The project "The swallow is an immigrant or a refugee?" was presented in the greek newspaper "Haniotika Nea" with a great review of the reporter and teacher Vaghelis Kakatsakis. In this newspaper, apart form the presentation of the project, all the students of DDMN Primary school in Chania-Greece shared their point of view of the project.
