  • NOVEMBER topic: Deserts contra islands

    Guided by: Slovakia

Enjoy the information about wonderful deserts around the world or magical islands hidden in the seas in the draft "Exposition", read "The tasks" of November, take a challenge - pick the right one for you and your pupils and post your results in the draft "Fulfilled tasks."

...or simply sit back, relax and enjoy bonus materials here, at a page named "November".

    Volcano eruption experiment :-)

The volcano is made of a plastic bottle surrounded by a paper "skirt" sprayed by acrylic colour to make it waterproof.

Kids poured inside two cups of vinegar, one cup of water and some red food colouring and I added baking soda. Then the eruption began and we could see the way how the volcanic islands are created!

    The islands´origin

We also learnt about many types of islands and then made groups to work with the big poster-worksheets about them.

Kids were first watching a presentation about the islands and their types and origin and then in the group they were looking for the pictures, match the type of island with a picture-symbol of its origin and stick the pictures at the right place on a poster-worksheet.

    You can see there:

Coral island + Coral reef           Tidal island + High tide          Desert island + Desert

Artificial island + Bricklayer      River island + River               Volcano island + Volcano

                            (made by man)

We do not have deserts in Slovakia, but we DO have islands. More precisely - the river islands and not only the small ones.

Žitný ostrov (Rye island) - is surrounded by Danube, Little Danube and the river Váh and it is

THE BIGGEST RIVER ISLAND IN EUROPE!!!!

Here are some pictures of it:
