Lincke, Dietrich and Kaiser Wilhelm II. (Script)

  • Reporter:        Ladies and Gentlemen!

I have pleasure in welcoming three famous German stars!

The world famous composer of operettas like "Frau Luna": Paul Lincke

Kaiser Wilhelm II: Emperor of Germany (from 1988 to 1918)

and a celebrity who was at the time of our interview 13 years old:

                            Marlene Dietrich

Mr  Lincke, what was important to the people in your time?  What was interesting?  How did they spend

                             their free time?

Lincke:            It was a  wonderful time. Women wore lovely dresses and men had suits and  top hats. There was was                             a dress  code for every occasion.

Reporter:        What about the city of Berlin?

Lincke:            Berlin Alexanderplatz was a place where many tram lines passed. Berlin was  very advanced – with respect to                          traffic!  We even started flying Zeppelins. Certainly a good, safe and quick way of travelling!

Reporter:        I heard the comet “Halley” just went past the earth. Did that inspire you?

Lincke:            It certainly did! My operetta “Frau Luna” is set on the moon.

Reporter:             Excellency, I am so fortunate to have the chance to speak to you and ask you questions.

You seem to stand with both feet on the earth. You are quite respected! How do you manage?

Wilhelm II:        Like all Prussians I believe in my army and in my troops. They do their duty and look very nice in their uniforms.

Reporter:           Marlene, what do you prefer? Nice dresses or uniforms?

Marlene:            I hate dresses. My favourite outfit is a blazer and trousers. II want to be different –and more modern! Well, an artist"

Reporter:           Talking about modernity. I'll invite you to take a look at the modern Berlin. Nowadays a lot of different cultures                             live together in the capital.

Wilhelm II.        Is there "law and order"?  Or just chaos?    As a Prussian, I can neither appreciate nor  believe that!

Marlene:           Wonderful!  So modern!      People from all over the world!  Also, American men! J

Lincke:                Perhaps it can inspire me to a further operetta!

Reporter:           Oh. There are unexpected reactions!        Thank you very much!
