    A World Heritage Site is a landmark which has been officially recognized by the United Nations, specifically by UNESCO.

    Sites are selected on the basis of having cultural, historical, scientific or some other form of significance, and they are legally protected by international treaties. UNESCO regards these sites as being important to covering the interests of humanity.

    -represent a masterpiece of human creative genius and has cultural significance.

    -exhibit an important interchange of human values.

    -are a unique or at least exceptional testimony to a cultural tradition.

    - are an outstanding example of a type of building, architectural, or technological ensemble or landscape.

    -are an outstanding example of a traditional human settlement.

    -are directly or tangibly associated with events or living traditions, with ideas, or with beliefs.
