Trees

  • I think that I shall never see
    A poem lovely as a tree.

    A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
    Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

    A tree that looks at God all day,
    And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

    A tree that may in Summer wear
    A nest of robins in her hair;

    Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
    Who intimately lives with rain.

    Poems are made by fools like me,
    But only God can make a tree.

    By Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918), an American poet from New Brunswick, NJ

    This is my favourite poem. I think that the poet is telling the truth. My favourite verses are the first and the last one. He thinks that a tree is a rare creature. John Markou

    I was impressed by the fact that the poet had five children. By the way, I don't think that poems are made by fools. Andreas Sotiralis

    The poem Trees is amazing! My favourite verse is "Poems are made by fools like me, but only God can make a tree." I like this poem because I like nature. Melina Sotirali

    At this poem, I liked the fact that the poet described a tree that did so many kind deeds. Anna Dimaki

    This poem poem is about nature and it's full of images. It was written in the poet's bedroom. It's his most famous poem. Stefanos Galatis
