    SHORT DESCRIPTION:
"La colmena" is a novel set in postwar Madrid, where the characters move like a human swarm where everyone believes that things happen just because and nothing has a remedy. Today we are experiencing an environmental crisis because our bees are disappearing and the natural balance can be broken, and that does not happen just because, since probably one of the causes of the current climate crisis that we are living (with a clear anthropogenic component) is the "forgetting" of our social condition, that is, of our "hive identity" due to modern hyper-individualism. In this project we want to raise awareness of the importance of keeping those insects that do so much for our ecosystems and for human society in general, comparing them with the characters of such a valuable novel in which we are that swarm that flies in search of compassion and relief.

    OBJECTIVES:
    -General objectives:
    • Linguistic competence, both in native and foreign languages.
    • Digital competence, the basis for carrying out the project on the ICT platform.
    • Social and civic competence, to understand the social reality in which we live, cooperate, coexist and exercise democratic citizenship in a plural society.
    • Sense of initiative and entrepreneurial spirit, transforming ideas into acts through creativity and innovation.
    • Awareness and cultural expressions, an open and respectful attitude, the different cultural and artistic manifestations.
    • Scientific competence, use of scientific knowledge for situations in which it is required to produce, appropriate or apply this knowledge comprehensively and responsibly.
    • Critical thinking, analyzing and evaluating thinking to improve it, questioning and studying real life facts to draw your own conclusions.
    • Learning to learn, attitudes to continue learning autonomously throughout life.

    -Specific objectives:
    - Environmental awareness about the importance of the functions of bees in our society and ecosystems.
-Role of the human being in the environmental crisis and search for solutions (sustainability).
    - Cultural and social contextualization of postwar Spain.
    - Comparative study of human society with that of swarms.
    - Coffee as a space for socialization and a feature of European identity / belonging.
    - Self-evaluation, co-evaluation and general evaluation of the project.
    - Knowledge of cooperative and collaborative learning.

    WORK PROCESS:
Students will work in international mixed groups (their names will be related to the swarm, honeycomb or hive) where they will carry out the different investigations, activities and final products. First they will be presented individually (identifying with something related to the beehives or the characters in the novel) and by centers and they will show something about their culture. They will create and choose a logo among all of them and, then, guided by the teachers, they will begin their research on the importance of bees in our society and will make a comparative study with the characters that appear in the novel of the Nobel Prize in Literature Camilo José Cela, "Beehive". In this comparative study, different cooperative research and study activities will be carried out. All assignments will be carried out throughout the school year and will be evaluated with rubrics.

    EXPECTED RESULTS:
Different disciplines will be worked on in a transversal way and therefore the results will be multidisciplinary. The mixed groups will be divided into the different chapters of the novel "La colmena" and will produce the products related to each of the corresponding activities. In addition, they must acquire digital skills typical of a project carried out on an online platform (being users of tools such as SurveyMonkey, Doodle, Padlet, Emaze, Power Point, Paint, etc.) and those marked in the objectives. The products made will be both digital (Padlet, GoogleDrive, text and video editing, etc.) and analog (scrapbooking, murals and black poetry). All these activities will be evaluated with rubrics and the project will be co-evaluated by the students at the end of it.
