Gravity map

  • Map of gravity in Europe, according to our measurements

To participate in the project joined 16 teachers from 10 countries (8 teachers have not yet sent their results). The student teams performed measurements and calculations. The table shows the results of calculations to measure the acceleration of gravity using a simple pendulum.

Based on data in Table performed visualization

Teoretycznie wartość pola grawitacyjnego powinna rosnąć wraz ze wzrostem szerokości geograficznej. Największa wartość pola grawitacyjnego powinna być w Polsce (największa szerokość geograficzna) a najmniejsza w Grecji i w Hiszpanii (najbliżej do równika).

"Value of gravitational field should grow along with incrementation of (growth of) latitude theoretically. Biggest value of gravitational field should be in poland ( biggest latitude ) but in greece smallest and in spain for equator ( most closer ). Results of our measurements have exerted differences of practices with theory. I appreciate engagement of investigative group and uważąm that they result from anomaly of gravitational field in it divergence part < frequent > land (earth) pólkuli. In europe gravitational Rzeczysicie anomali wystęują. I present results of measurements of satellites"

gravity anomaly is the difference between the observed acceleration of a planet's reaction to gravity and a value predicted from a model. A location with a positive anomaly exhibits more gravity than predicted, while a negative anomaly exhibits a lower value than predicted. The anomaly is the body or effect that causes the deviation from the "ideal" gravity model. Many data corrections must be made to the measured gravity value in order to extract the response of the local anomaly, or local geolog.

Causes - Lateral variations in gravity anomalies are related to anomalous density distributions within the Earth. Gravity measures help us to understand the internal structure of the planet. Synthetic calculations show that the gravity anomaly signature of a thickened crust (for example, in orogenic belts produced bycontinental continental collision) is negative and larger in absolute value, relative to a case where thickening affects the entire lithosphere.  (sourse: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity_anomaly).

What were the reasons for such discrepancy results of our measurements?
