IES Cantabria is a state public school with approximately 1300 students. 118 teachers work either in morning or evening shifts in the different courses which are offered at the school: Lower and Upper Secondary Education, both with a bilingual section, and also, Vocational Training Education related to Health Issues. Security and Environment and Chemistry for young students and adults.
Education at school focuses on foreign languages (English and French), Social and Natural Sciences, Technology, Physics, Maths, Literature, Art, Music... A Bilingual Programme (Spanish-English), sponsored and supported by the British Council and the regional Educational Authorities, has been run at school for many years and it is really successful as the whole school community is very proud of it. Besides, sstudents select their curricula depending on their interests, skills and expectations.
We try to provide all students with a global and comprehensive education to be responsible, open-minded and aware of universal values, and we encourage them to learn by understanding, to express themselves freely and clearly, and to be creative and optimistic in their lives.

Our school, IES Cantabria, is located on the outskirts of Santander, a city with a population of 175.000 inhabitants. Santander is the capital of Cantabria and has spread out along the sea throughout its history. Its port and its nature have conditioned its urban features and its elongated shape in search of water. It has been built on hills and its steep slopes have also influenced the shaping of the various different quarters. Local affection for the bay, the only one in the north of Spain to face south, has forged a unique personality full of contrasts. In recent years the capital of Cantabria has also been able to boast that it has become an important point of reference for culture thanks to a busy agenda that attracts many visitors throughout the year.
