  • Which suggestions (proposed at the end of the survey) do you think it is the most important for you?
1 Be careful with personalized services. Recommendations made by web services simplify web browsing, but they also increase the risk of creating a filter bubble. The fewer recommendations a web service provides you with, the smaller the risk of ending up in a filter bubble.

2 Disable personalized ads: Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Select „Opt out of Ads“ ; iOS: Settings → Privacy → Advertising → Enable „Limit Ad Tracking“.

3 Disable Google’s Web History. Do you already use different search engines? Great, but do you still want to keep on using Google? The company saves your search history through a service called Web History. Go to the following website to disable this service and to partly prevent Google from storing your data: www.google.com/history

4 Clear your browsing history regularly: Safari → History → Clear History; Chrome → three-dot menu → History → Browsing History → Clear Browsing Data; Firefox → Settings → Privacy → History → Clear Recent History; Microsoft Edge → three-dot menu → History → Clear Browsing Data

5 Discussion. Actively take part in discussions on Facebook and other pages is an effective measure to escape your own filter bubble and to simultaneously tear down other filter bubbles. Those who get involved in an online discussion they do not feel comfortable with, or perhaps even because of that very fact, can threaten the filter bubble. It goes without saying that criticism should always be formulated constructively. (for students over 18)

6 Understand algorithms. Those who understand that algorithms can hide unwanted posts on social media, may be more careful with their likes and stored activity. You could for instance follow parties or organisations online that you do not actually endorse. This will make it harder for algorithms to form an appropriate filter bubble in the future.

7 Compare information. To counter the filter bubble effect, you can use the websites newstral.com or eurotopics.net as your default start page. They provide an overview of headlines from different political perspectives across the journalistic landscape.
    4 votes (14.29%)
8 Read books. Be informed There is some literature on the subject of filter bubbles and echo chambers, for example: Jaron Lanier: ‘Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now’,
    3 votes (10.71%)
9 Make informed decisions. Filter bubbles make decisions for us by automatically playing the next video, giving reading suggestions or making purchase recommendations. Become aware of this. Decide for yourself.
    4 votes (14.29%)
10 Withdraw from the web. The most radical solution would be to completely withdraw from the web. You could try giving up Instagram, Snapchat or other media that you consume on a daily basis, for one week and see how your views and opinions develop during that time. You might consume differently afterwards and value conversations and meetings more.

My personal experience with filter bubbles

I think it depends on the App. If I want to check up the latest news I sure want to see everything and want to educate myself. But if it’s about entertainment (Netflix,Tiktok,Instagram) I find it nice to watch posts which suits my humor and/or my interests.

    My Opinion on Filter bubbles

I guess it depends on what I search for. If I want to be entertained I appreciate seeing posts that fit to my interests. But I think too that when it comes to researching Information I want to get to know everything.

My thoughts on my filter bubbles result

According to my test results, I should increase the security of my social accounts. I thought I already did this but I was wrong. I'm still stuck in my filter bubble, but I'm already using a number of methods to try to make it burst. From now on, I will be careful to use safer sites and applications. In this way, I will get more accurate information about the subjects I'm curious about.

My view after doing the filter bubble test.

According to my test results, I have to use different search engines. From now on I will be using Ecosia instead of Google. I also learned that trees were planted when we used the free Ecosia search engine. This is great! I wish I had learned before. Fortunately, this test has made me conscious. The Ecosia search engine I discovered thanks to this test is now my favorite!

Somethings that I noticed according to my test results

Before this test, I don't use hidden tab. Then, but now use it. Also I don't use Google. I start to use another search engine. I think that test was so didactic.

Filter bubble test in my view

Before the test, I didn't know that I can disable personalised ads on Snapchat. I feel so uncomfortable when I see any personalised ad. Once my friend and I were just talking about a lip stick brand. After that, I saw that brand's ad on my Instagram stories. I wish we could disable personalised ads from other platforms too but still it's nice to know Snapchat gives us a choice for how we want to get influenced.

    My thoughts on websites

I try apps and websites I don't know to improve myself and learn new things. Although I don't like them, I have to use them for my work or homework. But I don't prefer apps or websites that I don't like when it comes to Entertainment. I use apps that I know, trust, and interest.

My opinions about filter bubbles after this test

Before this test I actually was caring about something such as clearing chaches, making decisions for my interests. But after this test I learned something more. I think everybody should know something about how social media algorithms work and do their works on it by know.

    My opinions about filter bubbles

Actually, I didn't know about filter bubbles before the test. I think it is useful if I don't want to get information about something. If I ask for getting information then I want to see everything about it. But, for example while I'm looking for movies, I want to see options according to my interests.

    My views on filter balloons

Before this test I learned that I know very little about the internet. After learning in this test, I decided to change my search engine and clear my search history frequently. Also, after taking the test, I started getting more annoyed by personalized ads.

    My Ideas on Filter bubbles

This test changed my view of the internet and increased my internet awareness. I think it will be useful for other users as well.

    In my oppinion filter bubble

Filter bubble seems very basic at first. It's well educated test, keeping up with the day. It asks you every scenario then charactarizes you. I learned I need to clear my internet history often and I need to be alerted when I go online. If I'm going to talk I need to be offline to avoid disgusting ads and personalized messages. And I need to get information before I make a decision. This filter bubble test is great. It helped me lot I got the information about using the internet safer.

opinion about my filter bubble results

Fortunately, my filter bubble could burst very soon ! i always clear the browser history after using different sites , disable the location on apps and clear caches . But i also should be more careful , i never thought of using other searching engines rather than google , and i didn’t know how many other choices are. But from now on , i will definitely use them.

What I have to do after this test

I have to use different search engines.I have to clear my internet history. I have to get more information about the subject.

    My opinion on filter bubbles

I think I need to learn more about safe internet. The internet can be dangerous at times and we must protect it

    My opinions about this test

This test made me realise that i should be more careful. I wouldn’t do that much research about internet safety. I’m glad that i did this test.

    My opinion about filter bubbles

I think what is really important about this situation is the way companies treat their user's information, giving us easier access to information we might like is surely a good thing, but creating a filter we can get stuck in can be damaging and unproductive

the filter bubble in my opinion

seeing my results, I am coming out of the filter bubble, although honestly, I think they cannot entertain me posts or videos that I don't care about but, on the contrary, they would bore me unless they are something new and interesting.

    In my opinion

I think technology is indispensable for our life. But we must use it carefully. According to my filter bubble test result, I wasn't using the internet as safe as I thougt. Therefore I will be careful when using the internet.

My personal experience with filter bubbles

What i think is bad about filter bubbles is that there are actually many ways to keep the filters at the minimum, but most of these are designed directly on the sites and have to be manually disabled so most of the time people don't even know their informations are being used in this way, a solution for this problem would be having sites asking us if we agree to have our data used like this, in a more specific way than asking us if we want personalized ads (this kind of disclaimer is common enough, and it is a start but non enough)
