I’m 23 years old, my name is Rojkov. I’m presenting my story.

I am from Russia and now I live in New York.

When I lived in Russia I walked for 3 hours hours to find water and to buy some food.

At this time I lived in a shanty town.

My family, I have 2 sisters and 1 brother and I lived with my brother because my father was angry.

My house was built of barrels and cardboard and the door was in wood.

When I was a little boy I went in a small school with my family so I learned the lessons of English, 1 year later I was the best in my classroom in English so my teacher decided to help me to find a way to go to the USA.

Even now i remember the cold winter nights when i would try to learn more and more, despite the little chance that lay before me. The teacher,Nadya, told me to have patience and to be determined. I studied as time passed. In the 4th grade,i went to St.Petersburg at a boarding school which provided middle and senior education. When i was about to take the final exam in 11th grade,my teacher told me about an international contest which could grant me one year as an exchange student in America. After finishing school,i saved as much money as i could, then went for the experience which would change my life.
My first sight of America was in New York. The magic of the city kept me wanting to continue the fight for my dream.
After becoming major,i was able to return here,to pursue my vocation as a Russian translator.

When my dream became true i was very happy. In the middle of September they called me for a job as a translator in the biggest museum of America. I was very excited because that was a big step for me and for my future. I felt very blessed for the opportunity that gave to me and i went to meet my brother to tell him the great news. When i went to Russia my brother was waiting me at the airport, he hugged me and we went at his house. All the family was there and they were waiting me. When they saw me they ran at me and they told me congratulations, they were very proud of me.

Finally, my family was very proud of me, we make a party to celebrate my new proposition of work in the biggest city in America.

I told to my family how to work in America, we need to be at work at 7.30 and we finish the work at 19.00, we have just 45 minutes for eat and we return to work behind a desktop, but that’s fun because we are a team of five translators so we talk in Russian in our room of work and my boss does not understand Russian so we talk and he doesn’t understand. But we have so much work … twenty pages to translate in English per day, but that's not hard.

Today my family and I we live in a beautiful appartment in New York. My mother and my father live again like a real couple. My sisters are students at Vocational school in the Center of New York, my brother join in the team of translator and we work together.
