BG - Traditional stitches on national costumes

  • The best way to learn something is to explore and discover on your own being involved in activities. We'd like to share what we have learnt:

Embroidery used to have great symbolic value. It was believed to protect the human body from evil spells and spirits. People believed that cutting a part of the embroidery of one’s garment would blaze a trail for the evil spirits and make the person vulnerable.

The red color symbolizes the mother’s blood and the continuation of life. It will protect from “bad eyes” and spells.

The green color was the expression of eternal life and was connected with the Tree of life – the human symbol of the universe.

The yellow with its shine was associated with the sun, the fire, and the ligh.

The white color revealed the purity, youth, and the divine light.

Main elements of our traditional embroidery: Tree of life, Elbetitsa, Swastika, Celstial turtle.

In the pictures we are looking for those elements on embroidered runners, pillow cases, aprons, etc.
