BG - Baba Marta Day

  • Baba Marta day is celebrated on 1 March. It is a traditional Bulgarian festival which welcomes spring and reviving life.

We all pin tissels made of white and red yarn or thread to our lapels or tie them to our wrists. Those are small gifts wishing each other good health and joy. The tissels are called Martenitsa.

May you all stay healthy and live in peace!

Love form Bulgaria with a martenitsa embroidered by a 6th-grade girl form our school, Gergana Ivanova

The traditional characters that appear in martenitsi are a girl called Penda and a boy called Pizho. These are Pizho and Panda that are decorating our school these days. :)
