6th December Belgium

  • On the 6th December we celebrate Saint-Nicolas what we call Sinterklaas.
This is the man it's all about at Saint-Nicolas.

On this holiday it's all about gifts. Little children put a carrot for his horse and a beer for his helpers next to their shoe and then put it next to the fireplace.
When the children are asleep, he and his helpers come inside through the chimney and they replace the beer and the carrot for a gift for the children, many have tried to catch him but all have failed, he may look like an old man but nothing can stop him from doing his job.

When Saint-Nicolas arrives in Belgium there's a huge procession, there is also a circus on the grand square in Sint-Niklaas. Unfortunately
people do not really decorate their houses.

This holiday is really important for children because they get a lot of gifts and sweets. Mostly chocolate and marzipan

    Did you know?
-That the horse of Saint-Nicolas is named: bad weather today.

-That the helpers of sinterklaas actually don't have a black skin. It's black from all the soot because they have to climb in and
    out a lot of chimneys
