First work meeting in Bulgaria

  • From the 9th to the 13th of March 2015, Dimitar Talev Secondary School hosted the first meeting of the Erasmus + Project “GAMES”.

9th March: Arrival. Colleagues from four different countries and their students (Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Slovakia) arrived at our school throughout the day. The children were greeted by their host families and the colleagues were escorted to their hotel.

The Slovakian students spent their time with their Bulgarian peers: taking part in the morning school lessons, making martenitsas and in the activities of  host families. In this way, they learnt a little about what it is to live as an Bulgarian.

10th March: Our day started with the meeting at Dimitar Talev Secondary School. A greeting concert prepared by pupils of our school took place. There was a short ceremony in which the headmistress of our school officially welcomed the Erasmus +  Project teams. The host school introduced  themselves, their region, district and the country. Then the teams were invited to the welcoming ceremony and seeing the classrooms and the building. Then partners in the project present their schools, regions and countries.

It was followed by a short sightseeing tour to the old town of Dobrich, local museums and art gallery. The teams together with the foreign students and host students had a guided tour about the town. The weather was bad  but everybody was strong enough and we coped with it successfully

11th March: We arranged a trip for our guests. We visited the town of Balchik - the Architectural Park Complex, botanical gardens and the palace (former summer residence of Queen Marie of Roumania) and the Dolphinarium in Varna.
12th March: From 9.00 to 13.00 working in groups. Work meeting  for teachers  - Topic of discussion: Project Activities. Planning future activities.

At the same time, our pupils together with their friends from four countries were having an IT lesson devoted to the Twin space of the project GAMES in the e-Twinning platform.

Later  the foreign colleagues could watch a P.E. lesson. Students played  Traditional Bulgarian Games. During the competitions pupils had a great chance to cooperate with their friends and improve their physical skills. Moreover, they could show their abilities to work in teams. They could also understand the importance of fair play rules in sports. They had a great time together playing different games.

Later in the afternoon the students met Our Local Celebrities - "NNS crew - hip hop dance group - semi finalists from Bulgaria Has Got Talent. They learned a few steps and dances.

In the evening a disco party was organised for students and teachers in Piano bar.

13th March: Departure day: We brought our colleagues and the children to the appropriate airports and, as always in these bittersweet moments, there were moments of emotional good-byes and the desire to meet again soon. Many of our Bulgarian students made friends with their European peers. The host parents and children were very pleased to regale a foreign child and to practice the language. Children were happy to get to know each-other’s culture and the opportunity of travelling to the partnering countries on the next occasions. Hopefully they will keep in touch.

Slovakian pupils took part in the school lessons again and learned Bulgarian folk dances.

We are looking forward to the next meeting in May in Poland.
