SPORT IN SCHOOLS

  • In Bulgaria at school we do sport obligatory, it is one of the school subjects. In younger classes pupils do sport every day – they usually go out to the playground and play different games. It is more like having fun than playing a particular game. The most important is to move and be outside in fresh air. When we start Year 5 we have 3 classes of PE regularly every week. It is like this until the end of secondary school. We have two hours per week of sport and exercises and one more hour of our favourite games. It means we have an option to choose – the variety of choice depends on the schools. In our school we can choose among: football or volleyball. The most popular are football and volleyball. In big cities where there are more opportunities the students can choose swimming, martial sports or even dancing.

Sport in “Henryk Sienkiewicz” High School in Szydłowiec

In our school there are many different sport clubs which students are members of. There is a handball club, a volleyball club and a football club. Extracurricular handball lessons take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, football lessons are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and volleyball classes take place on Fridays. The lessons are given by qualified PE teachers with a lot of experience. Apart from that, there are also PE lessons in which students play volleyball, handball, football and basketball. During them, students are obliged to have their sports kits. We always start with an intensive warm-up, then we do some stretches. After the warm-up we move on to my favourite part that is practising different techniques. In the end, class teams play matches. The teachers vary their classes with exercises, different competitions and give students good grades which encourage students to work. The school volleyball tournament is held and the team that wins can count on having an ‘A’ as their final PE grade and can represent our school in district championships, once a year. It is necessary to take precautions, during PE lessons. Students who are doing exercises are under the supervision of well-trained PE teachers, who promote their subject with the following statements “Sport is health” or “By taking part in PE, you’re taking care of your body”. When we participate in PE classes, we can count on both a warm atmosphere and ports rivalry.

    Let the best win!
