Our school librarian assigned them a task to learn poems written by Naum Popeski, Vancho Polazarevski, and Vera Andon (the last author’s attendance was cancelled because of illness). The librarian worked with and prepared the students daily to make their performance successful. The members of the school library club researched the life and work of the authors and prepared presentations about the literary portraits of the writers and to think of questions for them to get a broader view on their lives..

During the literary meeting, the writers introduced themselves to the students and then the students presented their prepared activities. First, they performed their play “Marko from  the music school/solfège”, explaining why they chose this text to adapt. The writer Ksenija Trajcheva Makazlieva thrilled by the performance explained to the students how the text was created and that it has several parts which have been published in the children’s magazine “Razvigor” whose editor is she. The writer Vancho Polazarevski also spoke highly of the students’ performance of the text “Space schools” which included rhymes and is with humorous style. He took this opportunity to explain to the students that the rhyme can be used everywhere even in prose texts.

The group of students who created their own poems recited them in groups made according to the motifs depicted in them. The librarian asked them questions to help them explain the creative process. After each interpretation the authors gave positive review for every students and advised them to continue writing,

The poet Vancho Polazarevski emphasized that rhymes are not obligatory in poems, but are recommendable for the musicality of the poem and for making it more memorable. He mentioned to the students that they should use rhymes that are frequently used. He made an attempt to create a stanza with the rhymes already used in the poems, but with new content. The poet Naum Popeski, recited a poem without a rhyme written by Blazhe Koneski which proved that the poem sounded equally beautiful because it has musicality, rhythm and poetic images which is equally important for poems as rhymes. He emphasized to the students the importance of reading books in order to be able to express themselves freely and transform their ideas into expressions, and suggested that they should be creators of their own prose and poetry.

The writers Vancho and Naum recited part of their poetry which students especially enjoyed and they were vey interested in listening and answering the question asked by the authors. At the same time the students gave interpretations of poems written by the authors to show them what they sound like and how they are accepted by the youngest audience.

The writer Naum Popeski read one of his poems stanza by stanza, and the students were supposed to guess the next rhyme, i.e. the last word of the stanza based on the previously read lines. Quite an interesting moment was when one student interpreted a previously learned poem written by Vancho POlazarevski, and the writers had to recognize their own poem. Then the writer Ksenija Trajcheva Makazlieva explained how to write a poem when they need to have a special topic and motif for the needs of the magazine and the writers create a couple of poems on the topic easily.

Among the last activities was the drama performance of texts that students chose randomly. This activity was planned by the writer Ksenija Trajcheva Makazlieva. She chose several students and assigned them roles and without any preparation, together they interpreted the text “The hostesses and the ship captain”. The students completed the task without any confusion and showed their acting skills which excited the authors.

At the end of the event the students asked the authors questions which enabled them to broaden their knowledge about them. The authors told them when they started to write for the first time, what motivated them to start writing, what is their most frequent inspiration, if they had writte poems about love, which is their favourite book etc.

The literary meeting was held in a positive atmosphere and lasted about two hours. The students were actively engaged and with an uninterrupted interest and curiosity followed the entire event. They expressed interest to repeat this event with the same and some other children’s authors. They also said that their expectations were met, because they had the chance to communicate with the writers personally, i.e. with the real people, people whose names and surnames they had only met on the book covers before. The students listened to the pieces of advice the writers gave them about writing prose and poetry and they concluded that they will follow them in the future by following the principles they learnt about how to write more successful prose and poetry pieces.

After the end of the event, the school librarian gave the students a task to write a report in which they can share their impressions and experience from the literary meeting with the writers. They were also urged to read more books and prepare activities for the next literary meeting.
