Chiara Lubich was born on 22 January 1920 in Trent. She was an Italian teacher and essayist, founder and first president of the Focolare Movement, which has as its objective the unity between peoples and universal fraternity.She was a catholic activist and in 1959, in the Dolomite Mountains, she met a group of politicians and told them to "love the nation of the other as you love your own". Lubich died at the Focolare headquarters in Rocca di Papa, Italy, aged 88, on 14 March 2008.
Liliana Segre is an Italian Holocaust survivor,named Senator for life by President Sergio Mattarella in 2018 for outstanding patriotic merits in the social field. Her family was of Jewish origins and for that she was expelled from her primary school after the promulgation of Italian Racial Laws. In 1943 she was arrested with her family and deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. She was the only survivor of her relatives and in 1990s she started to speak to the public about her experience. On 27th November 2008, the University of Trieste awarded Mrs. Segre with an honorary degree in law. On 15th December 2010 the University of Verona awarded her with an honorary degree in Pedagogical Sciences.
ILARIA CUCCHI was born in Rome in 1974. She is an Italian human rights activist. She has campaigned for the investigation of the death in police custody of her brother, Stefano Cucchi. In 2013 she was an unsuccessful candidate in elections for the national parliament with "Rivoluzione Civile - Lista Ingroia".In 2010 she published a book describing her family and the heartbreaking story. In 2013 she entered politics with the Civil Revolution list but, not enjoying great success, therefore, in 2016 she ran for the Capitol. In 2017 she was elected Woman of the Year by the weekly D of the Republic.
Margherita Ancona was born on 3rd September 1881 in Palermo. She had Jewish origins. She was an italian teacher and active in the woman's suffrage. Margherita believed that the vote was essential for women to attain social and economic reforms and expressed her views in the January 1919 edition of the journal Attività femminile sociale. She was the opening speaker of the Suffrage Conference hosted in Milan between 23 and 29 April 1920, which called together prominent men from all of Italy's political parties to discuss women's enfranchisement.

Luxuria moved to Rome in 1985 to study foreign languages and literature. She began organizing parties and gay pride; she organized Italy’s first pride festival, on 2nd June 1994 in Rome, which attracted some ten thousand people. Luxuria identifies using the English world “transgender” and prefers feminine pronouns, titles, and adjectives. Rita Levi was born on 22 April 1909, she was an Italian Nobel laureate, honored for her work in Neurobiology. She was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine jointly with colleague Stanley Cohen for the discovery of the nerve growth factor. From 2001 until her death, she became a Senator for Life. This honor was given due to her significant scientific contributions. On 22 April 2009, she became the first Nobel laureate ever to reach the age of 100, and the event was feted with a party at Rome's City Hall. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living Nobel laureate. We choose her because she is a very brave woman in her career and with her ideas she has saved millions of people.In her time, being a woman wasn’t easy because they weren’t considered in everyday life and in the world of work.
Sami Modiano is an Italian Jewish man from Rodi, and was prisoner in the concentration camp of Auschwitz when he was only 13. He miraculously survived the Holocaust.Now, he uses his time and energy telling kids in schools his experience in the concentration camp, explaining to them about the horrors of Auschwitz.He inspires me because he survived such inhumanity to tell a message to the new generations, which is a prayer to not forget what happened and to do and to be better.

He held strong positions on many topics, including his opposition to capital punishment. A charismatic figure, John Paul used his influence to bring about political change and is credited with the fall of communism in his native Poland. He was not without critics, however. Some have stated that he could be harsh with those who disagreed with him and that he would not compromise his hard-line stance on certain issues. When WWII starts and Salazar goes along with the strongest, Hitler, to spare Portugal from a hypothetical Nazi invasion and immediately forbids the concession of entry visas to Jews. In practice, no Portuguese diplomat was allowed the concession of visas, but Aristides de Sousa Mendes noticed that the Jews were being sent, by the Nazis, to concentration camps, where they died, and granted 30000 refuges entry visas in Portugal. He is a Portuguese symbol in the defense of the human rights. To Aristides de Sousa Mendes we owe the values of generosity, fraternity and loyalty towards our neighbour. A medical surgeon and a gynecologist, she was the first woman to practice surgery at the São José Hospital, in Lisbon. As a republican and suffragist, she stood for the right to education of children and women. She defended equal pay for women. Curious fact: Being a window, and thus head of the family, and able to read and write, she met all the voting law requirements and claimed her right to vote. As the law did not explicitly mention gender, she was allowed to do so. However, in 1913 the law was altered to include a clause specifying that the vote was restricted to men
