An essay by Beatriz J., AE Sátão
Hello, I'm going to talk about what concerns me about human rights. Both human rights and SDG's are important, they stand for people's rights and we must respect them. The human right that concerns me the most is Article 7 “All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law. All are entitled to equal protection against any discrimination in violation of this Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination” which is related to SDG 5 gender equality.
In the world we can observe some situations in which this right is not being fully respected, for example, women go to universities (study), hold positions that in the past were only for men, but even with these changes, there are still cases where gender equality is questioned and endangered and we have as examples the situation in Congo, Pakistan, India and Somalia, which are countries where there is no gender equality.
Portugal is one of the countries where there is not so much gender inequality because people today have an open mind but that does not free us from the mistreatment of women and, unfortunately, domestic violence is still an issue in our country and authorities need to seriously tackle this problem. country. In 2017 , eighty-five percent of complaints about women suffering from domestic violence and dating violence were not tried and failed. Portugal, as well as several countries, should give more importance to the cases of violence against women because they have an impact in reducing women's well-being and nobody likes to live in a society where part of the population, women, don't feel safe and well In addition to domestic violence there are also several cases of rape that also jeopardize the well-being of women since 2008 , which has been declining slightly but there are still too many victims:, we started with 217 complaints and in 2017 the number dropped to 183 Women have always been expected to show obedience, and to do what men tell them to do. On an economic level, women receive-lower wages than men while performing the same job). Domestic chores or childcare are still seen as tasks more tied to the women than to the men.
If humanity does not start to open their minds, the world will never develop and there will never be gender equality so women will never be treated with due respect and will always be an easy target for men because as they are seen as inferior, they think they can do whatever they want with them.
