    Presentation

The island of Vis is the farthest Croatian island. It is situated in the Central Dalmatian archipelago and it is rich in natural beauties. It is rich in coves, promontories and isles. An extremely convenient climate made the island ideal for living and also a green house for growing many Mediterranean cultures such as vines, olives, carobs, lemons, oranges, and aromatic herbs. All of mentioned, but especially its strategic position made the island attractive. Rulers such as Greeks, Italians, English, Austrians or French came and left. They all left some mark, so today we can easily say Vis is a European island. A fifty year long destiny of isolation, the fort of Yugoslav army at the time, nowadays has turned into an advantage for Vis.  It has become an island of a rarely preserved nature and people who, despite growing tourism, still keep true and traditional human values. Moreover, it is listed by the World Wild Fund on among the ten most preserved Mediterranean islands.
