EDL in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, St.-Irmengard-Gymnasium

  • March 2020:

Just before our school was closed due to Covid19 we sent postcards to our friends in Corsica. These postcards show the paintings that a famous group of painters created - "The Blue Rider".

    27th February 2020:

We write our part in the collaborative story in our last lesson before the holidays. Before we can do that we carefully read the beginning.

    16th October:

The cover and the logo have been voted, so it is time to finish the book:

    10th October:

On the advice of my colleague who teaches the pupils in art, I have made a pre-selection of the book covers. So there are only three examples left to choose from:

    27th September:

After the pupils have written their dialogues in order to embellish the story, we recorded them and added photos of the old ruin to the soundtrack.

Here it is, our story in a video:

For the EDL on 26th September, we had prepared a poster:

On Tuesday, 24th September, we had a videoconference with Marina Tomova's pupils. Mine were very excited:

    16th September:

What we have done so far is choosing the story the kids want to tell, reading it in our mother tongue (German), having it written down in their own words, reading and recording it in German and finally writing it together in English.

The next step will be to find words for more details and looking at the tenses that were used with the help of the teacher (me).

Then, the students will create either pictures for the online book or take photos of the old ruins or even make little video clips around the ruins.

This is our story so far:

The white lady in the ruins

Once upon a time there was a count, Manfred, who was living with his wife, the beautiful countess Sieglinde, in the castle near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. They were very happy, but one day the count Manfred had to go on a crusade. The countess was very sad, when she said Goodbye. Manfred told his servant Gerold to look after the castle, the county and the countess and then he went away.

One day the message arrived that a lot of people had died on the crusade. The countess Sieglinde was very sad because she thought her husband Manfred was dead. Butt he servant Gerold was happy: he had been in love with Sieglinde for a long time. So he told her about his love, but Sieglinde didn’t love him and refused. So Gerold started hating her.

Some time later, count Manfred came back to the castle. Gerold told him that Sieglinde had been unfaithful to him. Without any discussion Manfred sent her to the deepest and darkest prison. After a while, Sieglinde’s maid finally could tell the count that Gerold had lied and that Sieglinde had never stopped loving Manfred.

Manfred ran to the prison to free Sieglinde. But it was too late. The beautiful countess was lying dead in the prison. She had died of a broken heart.

Nowadays she sometimes helps people who lost their way near the ruins of the old castle.

On 10th of September, school started and the first thing we did was choosing a story to tell:
