Sound Measurements.

  • Acoustic Measurements. 

    Inside our project we have to be familiar with sound measurements. Generally using a sond level meter is the best option but problems can came up with it, there are many types of sound level meters, not all works in the same way and the most important problem is the price, If we want to buy an precise sound level meter, probably we need to spned a lot of money. 

    There are some cheap solutions like using Mobile App. There are many good App but the problem is that, for example for Android, there are many differents brands, and normally they use different kind of microphones depending on the price and other factors. Experts recoemnd using the same brands of mobiles. Since we knew this we start to use an App called Safe Noise for Apple.

    In order to have more or less the same enviraonmental conditions, we need to plan measurements and time to meassure.

    1 Measurements in the Schools: Measurements 1minute. We will take note of high measurement, and average. 

    • Measure a calm and quiet place in your school like your library or a similar space.
    • Measure a noisy class, try to be as far as possible of people, but inside de the classroom.
    • Measure the School playground or the entrance when most students are there.

    2 Evaluate also differents part of your city: measurements 40 seconds.  We will take note of high measurement, and average.

    • Noisiest street, squeare or place in your town. Remember that you have to be in pedestrian areas not inside the road. If is a square you can be anywhere. Try to measure it three times during the day. Try to measure it three times, one in the morning, one in the afternoom and one in the evenings or nights. People come back to work different time in our countries so try to adappt your measurements in order to catch the noisiest time, at least one time per day. 
    • Measure an sporting place like football field, arena, swimming pool or something similar. 
    • Try to measure a public building like an office, hospital, etc. Just 1 time.
    • Try to measure a quiet neighbourhood two times, one in the morning and one in the afternoom or evening.
    • Try to measure a natural area near your twon but affected by the noise. 1 time
    • Try to measure an area near restaurants, pubs or something similar. 1 time.
    • Try to measure a highway or main road to enter in your twon or city. 1 time.

    3 Noise in the Houses.

    The noise in our houses depends directly on many different factors, road traffic, materials in the houses walls, distance from the roads, kind neighbours etc.

    Try to make 3 measurements in 3 differents houses located in separate locations. 

    1. inside the house with closed windows.
    2. Open windows.
    3. in the main door of the house. 

     

    4 Noise at night

    The noise at night are one of the most critical components of noise pollution.

    • Messure the noise by your own bed a whole night.
    • Start the app when you turn out the light to sleep, and stop the app when your alarmclock wakes you up.

    The interesting is the avarage noise level (Lnight)

    With these numbers and figures we can have a general idea about how noisy is our towns.
