Greetings from sunny Portugal!

We are a group of students between the ages of 6 and 12 who attend a language centre in Cartaxo, the wine capital of Portugal! Our language centre is focused on using English to contact with different schools from around Europe and also from around the world. We enjoy learning about different cultures and sharing our own local culture is also a great way to learn about ourselves.

Our langauge centre is located in Cartaxo, a municipality in the centre of Portugal in the district of Santarém in the heart of the Ribatejo region. We are just an hour away from the nation's capital, Lisbon, and we are a mix between small city life, countryside peace and riverside fun!

Cartaxo has got many beautiful places to visit. Its typical streets are lined with old traditional homes as well as modern theatre and cultural centre. Our city hall has got a large square where many events happen throughout the year and our local playwright Marcelino Mesquita greets us every day.

Our small city has got a beautiful market, an old police station, a modern sports centre and a bull fighting rink.

If we travel outwards towards the river Tejo, the longest river in Portugal, we reach Valada, a riverside town where we can enjoy nature at its best.

Cartaxo is famous for its wine culture that is why we are the Portuguese capital of wine. We all have family connected to wine harvesting and wine production and we have a beautiful museum and festival dedicated to celebrating these traditions.
