Introduction
The course, Positive Psychology for Every Teacher, took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in February 2019.
As a primary teacher who has just moved into special education, and is working predominantly with children with strong social/emotional needs, this course provided an opportunity to learn about a range of areas associated with promoting well-being in children and adults:
- Mindfulness
- Empathy
- Self-awareness
- Coping with emotions
- Communication
- Interpersonal relationships
- Creative thinking
- Critical thinking
- Decision making
- Problem solving
As well as this, the course gave me a chance to meet up with fellow teachers from Finland, Latvia and the Czech Republic. In doing this, I was able to learn about the advantages and challenges experienced by participants in the education systems in their countries, and share different ideas, tools and methodologies for promoting well-being amongst students.
