  • TOURIST GUIDES IN OUR CITY

Students were divided into two groups and walked to the city center stopping for sigh seeing along the way.

One of the groups walked on top of the Venetian wall still surrounding the old city center. The other went thought the main city park. Other sights along the way were the city market, Venizelos statue, Liberty square, the Basilica of St. Marcus and Loggia.

Both groups met at Morozini Fountain or Lion square as it is commonly called.

The tour was followed by a visit to the Info Point spot of the city which uses interactive technology and games to introduce visitors to the cultural wealth of the island of Crete.

    CYBERBULLYING

Students first watched a short film entitled Tagged, developed by the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s Cybersmart program. It involves a group of high-school friends who posts an online rumour sparking a chain reaction that leaves no one untouched.

Students were then divided into groups and each group took the role of a student starring in the movie. They discussed their feelings and how actions taken affected them.

Each group then expressed their opinion to the other groups as to how online interactions may have real-life consequences

The film touches issues of cyberbullying, sexting, digital reputation and privacy online and can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtEGAcLBTTA&t=498s

    STEREOTYPES

Students are place in a one by one line.

The coordinating student calls out certain phrases and every one who agrees with the phrase has to run to the other side of the room while those who don’t stay in their place.

Phrase range from very common characteristics (e.g. I wear jeans today, I have brown/blue eyes) to uncommon ones.

Students then reflect on the group they are with and how large or small it is.

The activity is set to music.

    GROWING THE SEEDS OF EUROPE

The school’s agriculture teacher explained to students the types of seeds and how to plant them. We had multiple pots available as well as ribbons, fancy paper, markers and stickers to decorate them. One group of students worked at decorating the pots while the other group planted the seeds.

Finally we placed nametags in each pot with the names of the students and the name of the plant. Pots were watered and transferred to the school greenhouse.

    CHARITY MARCH

We championed for road safety and selected to dedicate our charity march to the victims of traffic accidents.

The march was organized in association with two bikers clubs who brought their motorcycles and placed them in line in front of the school before the march. Help of the local police was also sought and policemen accompanied the students throughtout.
