1st short - term exchange of the groups of students_01/2019_SLOVAKIA

  • The first short - term exchange of the groups of the pupils from Greek point of view

The 1st day of the Slovak mobility

Short video documented whole day from welcoming of our partners in the main hall entrance up to afternoon's biology lessons in our biology classroom.

The 2nd day of the Slovak mobility

Education based on students’ experiences is very efficient and it gives students possibilities for completing their knowledge.

So we decided to visit the wastewater treatment plant in Humenne on Tuesday.

This plant is one of the most modern wastewater treatment plants in Slovakia.

Students could find out how the wastewater treatment plant works and what happens to wastewater after we flush it down the drains and toilets.

Wastewater treatment is very difficult process which cleans sewage and water so that they can be returned back to the environment. These plants remove solids and pollutants, break down organic matter and restore oxygen content of treated water.

The students could go through the basic treatments: preliminary, primary, secondary and sludge treatments.

We hope that after this experience they will more appreciate the fact, that they can drink potable water daily and that the water is non renewable source, so we all have to save it.

The project students and their teachers spent their time in the second largest city of Slovakia in the afternoon. They visited the historical centre with St. Elizabeth’s Cathedral with beautiful main altar.  Then they moved to a complex of two medial houses known as Mikluš’ prison.

The 3rd day of the Slovak mobility

This day and the project activities were focused on cleaning the oceans. We implemented and used STEM teaching method in this activity and showed other teachers from partners schools and our foreign classmates that we can also use coding and Lego kits WeDo 2.0 for studying ecology.

The 4th day of the Slovak mobility

The 4th day of the Slovak mobility was focused on visiting the two most important places for inhabitans of eastern region of Slovakia due to water. Although the day was very cold and windy, we were very glad that we were given a possibility to visit these two places which are under strict protection and belong to the 1st and 2nd level of hygienic protection areas.

Thanks to these two places, Domaša and Starina, we can drink potable water daily and this water is one of the highest quality drinking water in the world.

The second importance of these water barriers is protection against floods.

Starina, the water reservoir situated in the Poloniny national park, is the largest water reservoir of drinking water in Slovakia and the central Europe as well and supplies whole eastern part of Slovakia with potable water.

Domaša, water barrier has many purporses, but the main are water regulation, water supply, hydroelectric power plant as well as holiday resort and fishing area.

The 5th day of the Slovak mobility

This day was the last day of the mobility and we decided to revise a little bit. Our students gathered together for the last time in biology classroom and worked in international teams again. Their task was to create the model of wastewater treatment plant. It was not very difficult, so we hope it was useful for them to strengthen their knowledge and to be familiar with the work of the plant.
At the same time, teachers had a meeting and dealt with an environmental plan that should be appropriate for the conditions of each school. They increased their knowledge in platforms for dissemination such as the Twinspace and Mobility tool.
At the end, the coordinator of the Slovak school and the coordinator of the entire partnership thanked each participant for the work they did, specially students for their behaviour and cleverness.
We are looking forward to the next short-term exchange of groups of pupils that will be held in May in Greece.
