IES REINO AFTASI is a school located in Badajoz, a mid-size city in the south west of Spain right on the border with Portugal. We offer different types of education for a variety of students (421 of them in ordinary education and 264 in distance and online education). The main field of expertise of the school is related to visual arts, performing arts and printing arts.
Younger pupils (12-16 years) study compulsory secondary education. They live near the location of the school. They usually belong to low working class families.
High school students (16- 18 years old), apart from the general subjects, specialise in Art (either related to fine arts or to music and drama). They come from all parts of the province and with different social backgrounds.
Vocational Education Training (VET) students learn the design techniques used in the printing arts and in the publishing design.
We have three different levels of VET courses on Graphic Design. They are full time training at school for two years and work placements in their last term of their last year.
a) Basic VET course in Printing assistant for 14+ year old students, with no school certificate, at risk of dropping out of the education system.
b) The Intermediate VET course is a two-year course with 16-18 year old students, equivalent to VET courses in other European countries. They study text processing, image editing, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Suite, workplace regulations,
c) The Higher VET course for students aged 18 +, with a GCE-AL as an entry requirement. It is a two-year course with subjects related to graphic design and digital publishing. When students finish they get a Certificate of Higher Education and are qualified to enter university degrees related to their studies.
Thanks to the Erasmus chart (ECHE) of the school these students have the possibility to do internships abroad.
Our school also offers Distance Education and Online Education for 18 and older students who want to achieve the high school certificate, the entry qualification for university. They couldn’t finish their studies in an ordinary way because of economic or learning difficulties, and they enrol to achieve a qualification for academic purposes or for better job opportunities.
Considering the learning difficulties of quite a big number of students, the school management team is committed to taking part in projects which help them to develop socially and emotionally so that they can grow in maturity and self-confidence, as the first step to make a difference in their lives.
School expertise
The main fields of expertise in our school are Visual Arts and Printing Arts. Therefore, in the project, among other values, we will try to share our vision on creativity and include an artistic vision in the final outputs.
Within most departments, teachers have extensive experience of putting in place workshops and exhibitions.
Teachers are also experienced in design. We have been awarded several prizes for the best school magazine in the province. Students’ works have also won prizes in the design of posters, cards...
Our staff has successfully taken part in previous Erasmus+ in which we hosted partners from different European countries.
