About the competition

  • 66 Years of Europe in School

The European Competition is one of the oldest school competitions in Europe and has accompanied European integration from the outset. For 66 years, pupils of all ages and school types have been creatively dealing with current European topics. The pupils' competition was established in France in 1953 as a project of the European Youth Campaign, where it initially began as an essay competition for older pupils on cultural aspects of European integration.

When EU funding ceased, many countries were forced to end their participation in the school competition. But eTwinning offers new opportunities: In 2014 the National Support Service for eTwinning in Germany started a cooperation with the European Movement, which is the institution which hosts the competition in Germany. Since then it is possible for eTwinning projects to take part in the competition.
