Data handling across classrooms using Microsoft Office tools

  • Pupils in Italy and Wales will collect data about pupils in their classes and prepare a table to be able to search and sort information to answer questions.

Here is the data that pupils collected in their respective classrooms and formed into one database.

Here are the questions that they will answer to find out certain information.

Points made by the Welsh team:

We found that 21 pupils out of the combined classes of 50 pupils liked pizza. the majority of these were Italian. This is interesting as pizza is traditionally associated with Italy.

The Welsh pupils are a school year older than the Italian pupils.

We were quite surprised that in our class we have 1 pupil who is Welsh/Chinese and another who is Welsh/Maltese - we didn't know that!!

We learnt a lot about data handling through this activity :)

Points made by the Italian team:

In the combined classes there are more boys than girls: 22 boys and 28 girls.

40 pupils out of 50 have dark hair

The smallest shoe size is 34/45 (5 pupils)

The biggest shoe size is 43/45 (4 pupils)

    Pizza is the top food!

    Response from the Welsh team:

Thank you for looking at our results. We learnt a lot about data handling from this activity.

Most of us have dark hair!!!

And yes, pizza is a very popular food across both Wales and Italy and it is a traditional Italian food too!!! There are lots of Italian restaurants in Wales ad both pizza and pasta are very popular!!!
