Valsequillo and Strahoninec Primary School are partner schools from Comenius and Erasmus+ KA2 projects since 2012. Since then, we have had a successful cooperation with each other which continues in the current Erasmus + KA2 project "Our Heritage is Our Treasure".
CEIP Valsequillo school is located in the rural area of the island of Gran Canaria in Spain. In this region, people who have come from various areas of the island of Gran Canaria live and work in a cohesive community. Valsequillo has a long tradition of agro-culture and cattle, as well as the cultivation of flowers and strawberries. The Valsequillo School is an active participant in many projects with more teachers, and among the largest and most successful are two European projects active on the E-Twinning platform called "Numeracy@English" and Schoolovision. In Schoolovision, this school has made multiple victories, and recently won the 2017 election. precisely thanks to its ICT teacher competencies and co-operation with the local community and associations.
Our English teacher participated in job shadowing mobility in order to improve digital and ICT skills through learning and experimenting with digital materials and ICT for creative use in the classroom. By observing the work od colleagues in English classes, assisting in teaching and working on the eTwinning project she has improved her teaching methods, media and computer literacy and broadened the basic lifelong learning skills needed for the future.
The activities during the job shadowing experience were learning through exploring, observation and critical thinking about the teaching process, comparing Croatian and Spanish teaching in order to improve approach to teaching English and communication with students. Staying in another country and observing different school system has enabled finding new teaching methods and CLIL methods for creating new curricula in foreign languages, especially non-formal and informal education. By learning closely about the CLIL method, the materials for the technical and artistic field will be more easily implemented in the work of these extracurricular activities in the English language.
Networking with colleagues in CEIP Valsequillo has ensured the exchange of good practice examples and strengthened school partnerships by raising intercultural awareness among teachers, students, parents and the community. Upon completing the job shadowing, teacher is using new skills in eTwinning Group and extra-curricular activity "English Club" where students will learn English and collaborate on school projects through videoconferencing and read books in English.
