Conclusions:
Significant reduce of plastics. Plastic bags, plastic bottles and plastic packages have a great difference.
Less plastics end up to the trash.
Significant rise of recycled materials.
We can be improved even more, but what we keep is that students and their families are making steps to more sustainable way of living!

Cleaning the beach next to Gymnasio Platania
In March we cleaned the beach next to our school and have made a research on the time needed to get decomposed the materials we've collected.
Here are some examples...
- Plastic bottles: 70-450 years
- Plastic bag: 500-1000 years
- Tin can: around 50 years
- Leather shoes: 25-40 years
- Cotton: 1-5 months
- Rope: 3-14 months
- Cigarette: 1-12 years
- Milk packet (tetra) covers and drink packets: 5 years
- Nylon clothes: 30-40 years
- Glass bottles: 1,000,000 years
- Fishing line: 600 years.
- Glass bottle; 1-2 million years
- Aluminum can: 200 years

What we can add in a composting bin
- Fruits and vegetables
- Eggshells
- Coffee grounds and filters
- Tea bags
- Seaweeds
- Nut shells
- Paper
- Leaves
- Grass
- Sawdust
- Hair
- Fireplace ashes
In addition we will need to add water from time to time and stir all the materials to help the process of compost creation.
What we should not add in a composting bin
- Butter
- Milk
- Yogurt
- Sour cream
- Eggs
- Diseased or insect-ridden plants
- Fats, grease, lard, or oils
- Meat or fish bones and leftovers

Greek team stops using plastic bags!
Following the German team's example we painted our own bags in order to avoid plastic bag usage...

Visiting a waste and recycle factory...
On 18th of April we visited the waste and recycle factory that exists in the region of Chania.
We had the chance to see by ourselves the different phases of waste processing and be informed by the responsibles about the existing situation and future programming of the factory functionality.

Gymnasio Platania every year participates in a Global Campaign which focuses on the awareness of each citizen about environmental issues, calling them to participate and improve their place by cleaning and improving each corner of the country!
This year we collected trashes from the beach, and helped to improve the main square of the Platanias village.

Erasmus+ Dissemination Day in Chania
On 1st of April our project was presented in an Erasmus+ event organised by the European Office of Secondary Education in Chania city. We had the chance to explain our idea and present our activities so far.
