Greek snowflakes

  •  Our snowflakes!

    December 13th

We tried to discover what happened to the disappeared salt too! We were really curious to find out what happened to salt after it was dissolved in hot water.

First, we used blue construction paper in order to cut our snowflakes. We placed them in plastic trays & plates and poured the salted  water over them.

After that, we formulated some hypotheses about what would happen later. Some of the students referred to the water cycle that we had studied sometime ago during a Science lesson (but couldn't actually combine salt with what they thought), others were a little worried that their snowflake would be ruined because of the salty water and a few who said that nothing would happen at all! So, we let our snowflakes ..in peace for a couple of days and waited.

    December 22nd

Finally, we checked the snowflakes and were surprised to see crystals on them and no water at all! We discussed and made suggestions trying to find out what those crystals were. We even remembered the water cycle (especially, evaporation) and came to conclusion that the crystals were the disappeared salt!!

We had so much fun exploring the ..disappearence of salt in water and we are so eager to solve some more science mysteries in the future!!!
