7. OUR EUROPEAN CULTURAL HERITAGE TOUR

  • Creating a cultural heritage tour of your area

As a class, you are going to create a video cultural heritage tour of your area.

    You will work in groups.

You will select some tangible and intangible cultural expressions/sites of your local area and make a video about their past, their present and their future.

    Follow carefully each step.

    STEP 1 - CHOOSE

Think of an intangible cultural expression or an tangible cultural site that you can find in your local area. It must belong to one the following categories:

    • building
    • natural environment (park, protected area, etc.)
    • intangible tradition (performing art, rituals, oral traditions, social practices, rituals and festive events, knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe, traditional craftsmanship)
    • artwork

    STEP 2 - CHECK

Consider the UNESCO criteria to be enlisted in the world cultural heritage list  and decide which one(s) can be associated to the tangible site or intangible cultural heritage expression chosen by your group.

If your choice meets at least one of the criteria mentioned, it means it was a good choice!

    STEP 3 - RESEARCH

Collect information and ideas about the past, the present and the future of tangible site or intangible cultural heritage expression you've chosen. Think of:

    PAST

    • Its history and origins (what about its origins? when was it created?, how did it evolve through the time? What was it used for in the past? which historical events did it go through? etc.)
    • The people connected to it (who were they? which relationship did they have with it? was it accessible to anyone? etc.)

    PRESENT

    • Present use/transformation (what is it used for today? who takes care of its preservation? why is it important for your area? who visits/attends/ transmits it? Is it accessible to anyone?)

    FUTURE

    • Which actions should be undertaken in order to pass it on to the future generations?
    • What could it become in the future? How could it evolve?
    • What could be done to make it accessible to as many people as possible ? (Think of people with disabilities for instance)

    STEP 4 - VIDEO MAKING

Once you have collected all the information you have to think about how to organise your video.

In the video you will have to include video recordings possibly shot in the place you have chosen. Each member of the group will have to speak.

The video should last between 3 and 5 minutes.

Here are some useful information on How to shoot a video. You will also find some useful tutorials about video editing.

    Video creation softwares:

    https://spark.adobe.com/

    Window Movie Maker

    https://www.wevideo.com/

    IMovie (for Apple)

    1) First write the script and decide how many and which shots will go with each part.

Use the following Template for the script and storyboard

    2) Choose an appropriate free music to make your video more enjoyable. The music should not cover your words.

    Free music:

    Wikimedia commons

    Freesound

    3) Do not forget to put subtitles to make it accessible.

    4) Choose a nice title.

    5) Edit the video.

    STEP 5 - SHARE

    1) Upload the video onto our Youtube channel.

    (Youtube account: treasuringeurope@gmail.com, password: etwinning)

    2) Link your video on the following Google Map (email: treasuringeurope@gmail.com, password: europe)

    3) Finally, create a quiz as a class for your partners about your video using learningapps. Include at least 10 questions. Post the quiz on the Padlet below.

    Final deadline: 29th April!

    Have fun!
