    Project day

On the 14th of  March after the 4th lesson the most curious students of our school came to the 2nd floor lobby.   There was Italian music playing, tasetefull smell of the Italian bread focaccia, made by  students from the 7e form with  technology teacher Rasa Jonaitienė was surrounding us. Why was it Italian? Because on the 18th of  March a group of students and teachers are going to Italy, Sardinia (Aggius) for a week, where the 2nd part of the „Erasmus+“ project  „Historical treasures of Europe“ international learning  activity will take place.

The project club students were presenting the upcoming activities by inviting our school students to check their knowledge  about  Italy, to learn some words or phrases in Italian, to taste iItalian bread, and of course, to learn about the project activities. Everyone wrote questions for the Italian students  and put them in a suitcase ready to go.

In Italy the project teams are going to present the most important historical places and objects of their countries.  With pride, Gedminai progymnasium team is going to present the Gediminas castle, The Palace of the Grand Dukes of  Lithuania, the Vilnius Cathedrol, the Church of St. Anne, Kernavė, the Trakai castle, the Hill of Crosses. We hope, that the learning activities are going to be really interesting, and are going to help us to get to know our partner countries‘ history better.

The students of Gedminai Progymnasium studied in the capital of Lithuania

October 19, early in the morning, students went to study in Vilnius: non-traditional lessons of citizenship and history were held at the Centre for Civil Education, at the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, and in the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights. The Centre for Civil Education has had difficult tasks for the seventh graders - they have had an educational workshop "What can a citizen do?" where they went deep into the main concepts of a democratic state and applied them in solving problem situations. Students, using the tablets and the material in the Centre, collected information about the characteristics of a citizen, how citizenship is acquired, what is an active citizenship. Students discussed and then presented their responses in groups. After that they planned to implement 2 ideas in order to be active citizens of Lithuania.

In the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania, the pupils remembered the structure of state institutions, their functions, the aspects of elections and referendum organization. They got to know the Seimas member's agenda and workplace. The pupils revised the facts that were very important for the history of Lithuania, remembering the most outstanding personalities who contributed to the establishment of Lithuania.

The third lesson in the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights elapsed very quickly, because the theme "Children in Exile" turned out to be very interesting. The story of a museum employee made it possible to learn more about the children who were expelled from Lithuania with their parents in 1941-1953. The seventh graders saw pictures of their peers (and even smaller children), learned how hard was the way to the places of deportation, how they lived, worked, studied and played there. The students could see the authentic objects of the deportees; they heard the stories of those who had returned about their childhood in Siberia.

    Project club

Students activelly took part in various project club activities: searched for project material, created logo, made a team presentation, filled the self-assessment questionaire, to measure how participation in this project may help to improve their knowledge and skills. Now, students are waiting for the first partners‘ meeting and  the presentation of Lithuanian history, which they are ready to show during their activities in Atheens.

    Klaipėda‘s cultural memorable places

On October 25-26d .6v grade students with  technology and history teachers implemented joint activities "Visiting Klaipėda‘s cultural memorable  locations on  Vėlines" (All Saints Day). During technology lessons students made bouqets  from natural materials.  Later history teacher and students visited Klaipėda‘s sculpure park and students were introduced with two memorable places in this park. Students lit candles and left their bouqets on the monuments, dedicated to the rebels of  uprising battle in Klaipėda city in 1923 and on the Liudvik Viener (XIX century citizen) grave. Students became familiar with the most important facts of history of the city and paid tribute to the dead on the occasion of the upcoming All Saints Day.
