    TOMBOLA

    Below there is a VIDEO to show how to organize hands on activities and  recreate new rules for a CLIL  TOMBOLA GAME with NUMBERS 0-100 and Multiplication tables .

    These activities aim  at  consolidating, refreshing and/or reviewing  Maths  skills in English as an additional language and abilities to work in groups during Maths lessons.

    STUDENTS IN GRADE IV s. C.

    Board games and computer games are really motivating and attractive. They involve students and engage them.

    We have recreated our Italian traditional TOMBOLA GAME and /or changed its rules to consolidate, refresh and/or review contents in various subject matters, such as basic vocabulary in English and multiplication tables, which are very difficult if not boring to memorize for some students. We have tried to repeat multiplication tables in English as an additional language or in Italian as the Lingua Franca.

    How to play

    Fix a price for each card. The players buy the cards, and one of the players buys the "cartellone . The money is divided into five prizes, from lowest to highest, with tombola being the jackpot:

    o the "ambo", two numbers on the same row

    o the "terno", three numbers on the same row

    o the "quaterna", four numbers on the same row

    o the "cinquina", five numbers on the same row

    o the "tombola", all numbers on the card

    Then the one who has the cartellone takes the numbers out of the sack, one at a time, calling them loudly, and placing them on their box in the cartellone, and leaving time to the players to mark the number on their card.

    What you need to play

    o a tabellone with squares containing all numbers from 1 to 90;

    o numbered cards, each one containing blank squares and 15 squares containing random numbers, arranged in tree rows, each containing five numbers; this cards are bought by the players

    o 90 wooden or plastic"tombolini" with numbers from 1 to 90, which are kept in a container (usually a cloth sack).

    OUR CHILDREN RECREATED THE BOARD GAME WITH HANDS ON ACTIVITIES.

    OBVIOUSLY WE HAVE READAPTED THE BOARD GAME TO FULFILL OUR MATHS LEARNING GOALS AND CHILDREN PLAYED WITH NUMBERS FROM 0 TO 100 TO MEMORIZE MULTIPLICATION TABLES AND EACH SMALL CARD REPRESENTED TWO NUMBERS TO BE MULTIPLICATED.
