Challenge : how to create a "green boat" ?

  • In may, our class will go to the Grau d'Agde in the south of the France. It' will be a "blue" class, a sea class.

So , in sciences, we have thought about "boat".

Can the boat be an environmentally friendly means of transportation?

We have been interested in the history of boats.

Since when do we use it to move on the water?

What sources of energy and what means are used to move it forward? Which mode of propulsion? ...

Then our teacher challenged us : "" how to make a boat that goes on its own without having to push it? "

Without engine, without oil or gasoline ....

As a group, we therefore thought about inventing our boat: what materials, which mode of propulsion ...?

    Then we made explanatory diagrams.

Each group exposed their work to the class and we debated, critiqued constructively to advance the thinking before the construction of our model.

Some examples of our plan :

Constructions more or less elaborate ... Well establish the means of propulsion of the boat and the source of energy used ... Not so easy ...

Here are our boats ! We have tried its !

    a hovercraft

    2 sailboats

    an air-propelled boat

an air-propelled boat in the water

    a wheel boat

Thanks to this work, we implemented the scientific approach. We then assessed ourselves in relation to our role in group work and the development of our boat.
