After getting to know each other and expressing our thoughts, it's time to take action: Why don't we start constructing our own society according to our common values? Let's put our thinking caps on and be creative!
Aim of this activity
The aim of this collaborative activity is to conclude the discussions and use the creative spirit and imagination of the group to create a brand new world according to principles that have been discussed previously. It requires the negotiation of roles, the distribution of tasks, and continuous communication in order to found a new world with an equal and solidary society.
This activity offers a lot of creative space that allows for the inclusion of several subjects like history, society, politics, nature, language classes, ... eTwinning projects working on the development of new worlds and societies are free to include a big portion of imagination that will stimulate their students' motivation. In terms of collaborative activities, one can think of several settings, e.g.:
- The discussion of the new world - on Earth or on another planet? (futuristic visions)
- The way society is structured (covering topics like equality, solidarity, poverty, justice, ethics, religion...)
- The way the new world looks (nature, buildings, transportation)
- Daily life (work, school, spare time, sports, music and other leisure activitities)
This activity does not only leave space to develop an imaginary world, the results of the discussions - either in classes or among the whole project group - can also be matched to real world problems and ways of participation. The wishes and issues of children can be a starting point for making them aware and presenting them with possibilities of active participation.
One way of participating is to address decision makers directly and express one's personal points of view. So, another students' activity deriving from the book could be to share the children's reflections by writing a letter to the government. Or, on a smaller level, to talk about what could be improved at school and address the headmaster at school.
