The Children's Conference

  • The CHILDREN'S CONFERENCE intends to be a public invitation to take children's opinions seriously. It wants to empower children and teenagers to be heard.

    Background of this project

    What is priceless?
In response to the banking crisis, the Papiertheater ("paper theater") established a large table in a public space from 2009-2013 as a forum for citizens around the world to discuss what is priceless to them (click HERE for further information). In addition to the various country-specific responses, one connecting common denominator could be found: "Children are priceless - and so is their well-being". From this perspective, the Papiertheater has developed the project CHILDREN’S CONFERENCE.

For a period spanning 4 years, children and adolescents from all over the globe were to be encouraged to speak their minds and thus remind us of this common denominator in our complex world. We asked children and young people about their fears and desires regarding their future lives and their demands on society:

    • What do the children think about contemporary ecological, political and social issues?
    • What are their ideas?
    • What can adults learn from it?
    Questionnaires and follow-up

The basis of the CHILDREN'S CONFERENCE is a specially developed "questionnaire" in book form that can individually be designed by each child in order to publish his or her own opinion.

The Papiertheater collects all books received by 2018 in order to put them in the public spotlight at the "CHILDREN’S SUMMIT CONFERENCE" in Nuremberg on September 20, 2018. There, all questionnaires will be displayed, prompting fruitful discussions. Afterwards, all books will be returned to their respective authors.

During the CHILDREN’S SUMMIT CONFERENCE, one task for the children will include developing and publishing a brand new questionnaire for adults which will be sent to all Heads of Government worldwide who are prompted to answer the children’s questions from their individual point of view. The project will then culminate in an exhibition of the questionnaires for adults.
