Project overview

“One story, two perspectives “, by Chemistry&Art 2

    ABOUT THE PROJECT

It is an interdisciplinary project involving schools with different specializations, in science and in art.
As Primo Levi said, “chemists are like blind people, because the things that they handle are too small to be seen,
even by the most powerful microscope”. This is one of the main reasons why chemical phenomena are so difficult
    to understand for students.
So, why don’t use imagination and drawings? Let’s create a storytelling in which atoms and molecules are the
characters that tell us what happens to them!
To get the goal, chemistry students and art students need each other,… they need to join forces!

    AIMS

Project wants to be a joyous and funny opportunity to develop a European community spirit and to broaden horizons
and cultural experiential, creating an effective collaboration between schools with different specialization.

We will tell the same topic from double points of view: macroscopic and nanoscopic, artistic and scientific.

So, project will stimulate creative thinking and will develop mental flexibility.

By storytelling strategy, we hope students will improve understanding of chemical phenomena and they will learn

how to create an effective and attractive presentation.

Sharing ideas, opinions and works, students will improve communication level in English language and skills in science,
art and ICT. Working on the project, teachers  will improve didactical strategies. All students and teachers
    will improve teamwork skills.

    WORK PROCESS

The project will be developed during 2016/2017 scholar year.

    Task 1:

Partners will present themselves, their school and town. Students will propose a logo for the project and then

they will vote the best one.

    Task 2:

Chemistry students will perform experiments in lab, recording a video and taking photos. Then, they will write a screenplay,

telling the experiment from the point of view of molecules. At that point, art students will put the story on drawings.

    Task 3:

In multinational groups, students will create a unique presentation putting together work in lab and drawings.
So, in final the presentation, it will create a linking between macroscopic and nanoscopic chemical world.
    Task 4:
Schools will make a videoconference to evaluate the project and to share the results.
Each partner will present the project to own school.
The final product will put on web.

    EXPECTED RESULTS

By a hard work and a constant interaction, we will expect to get our goals about improving skills in students and teachers.

Storytelling is a very effective strategy that can be use at school, but, so far, it has been little used in teaching chemistry.

At the end of this project, we will expect to produce a multimedial presentation and to put it on web: it will be

a didactic resource that every teacher can be use with his students.

During each task, students and teachers will share opinions, ideas, suggestions.

At the end of each task, it will prepare a quiz.

It will be stimulate the interaction between students by chat, emails, on the forum...

It will be use several informatic tools.
