Carei, our town, is a municipality in the county of Satu-Mare. It lies in the North-West of Romania in a flat region, at 35 km distance from the county seat.
The name of the town (villa Carul) appears in a document dating back to 1320, but the settlement was founded even earlier. In the XIV th century the place was a tiny settlement, with a few streets, and the farmers’ houses were made of pise and had thatched roofs around the estate of the Karolyi family.
