Past continuous

  • Past continuous

    We use this tense to:

    -describe a scene in the past

    • He was waiting.

    -describe a sudden event that interrupted a longer one (with past simple)

    • When he arrived, I was watching TV.

    - describe an event that was in proggress at a specific moment in the past

    • At 7.30 this morning, I was waiting for the bus.

     

    Negative

    We make negative form with TO BE in the past+NOT (wasn´t, weren´t) +BASE FORM with ING.

    • I was not playing.
    • You were not reading.
    • She was not running.

     

               Question

                We make past continuous question, when we change the position of TO BE and BASE FORM+ING.

    • Were we playing?
    • Was she reading?
    • Was I running?
