Italian canvas bags

  • Moncalieri's Castle Canvas Bags

Activity made with children of 5 years.

We propose to children to decorate some bags with the main monument of Moncalieri.

After a little discussion with children, we decide all together that Castle is the symbol of our town.

Children tried to draw the castle on the paper, and after that, every child has drawn his own on the interactive board,

We printed and then we copied the castles on the bags.

Every child added some particulars, like flowers, children, sky etc.

After the practical lesson we discuss with children about the difference between buy and give, and we thought and decided how much any bag must be sold to earn money for school, if each costs one euro. Through shared reasoning and problem solving children all together succeeded to find out how much the material costs (bags and colours) looking in the store catalogue and think how much each bag should cost to repay the fabric and the colours.

We discovered that colours are more expensive than bags and that one bag costs more or less 2 euro.

One group decided to sell the bags for 5 euro, another one decided to sell bags depending on the wealth of people: 3 euro "if you are poor" and 6 euro "if you are rich".

After that, children did the market, drawing the money and trying to sell and to buy.
