discounter vs. unpackaged store

  • Discounter vs. unpackaged store

    Hello everyone,

We are six students from Germany and in the following we would like to present you the results of our comparison between the two types of stores.

Our project started with us going to a discounter and to an unpackaged store to get all the necessary ingredients to bake bread which we wanted to make to compare between amount of waste, price, accessibility and taste!

It was very interesting to visit an unpackaged store and how it works. A thing you have to remember before you go there is to take containers with you which you can fill up. Because everything is in a big container from which you can take as much as you need.

One thing we noticed was that the store we visited didnt have any fruits or vegetables. Therefore we had to change our plan and do something that could be made of the things available in the store: Bread ;)

We went to the discounter and got the same ingredients we bought before.

    Making the bread:

    Unpacked Store                            Discounter

To compare the two breads we ask our classmats for review:

    Price and Amount of waste:

    And accessibility:

As mentioned earlier one big disadvantage of unpacked stores is that the assortment is not nearly as big as the one in a discounter. Furthermore unpackaged stores can not be found in every city, they are still very small and not very popular.

    Conclusion:

So in the end you can clearly see that the unpackaged store is environmental friendlier but has to be improved by many aspects such as in "appearence", size and assortment so that more costumers will make use of the stores!

If you have an unpackaged store near where you live make sure to try it out and let us know how you liked it!! We look forward to hearing from you!
