The Löwenburg is in the hillside park Wilhelmshöhe. The castle was built in 1793 by Landgrave Wilhelm IX as his summer residence. He built the Löwenburg purposefuly as a ruin. Landgraf Wilhelm was buried in the chapel of the Löwenburg. The Architekt Heinrich Christoph Jussow made the plans for the Löwenburg.
