Description of the E-Twinning Project :
“ Let’s express how we view each other through Fashion and Design”
The students come from vocational schools in Italy and France. They all study Fashion design and dressmaking. Throughout this project students have learnt more about their partners’ country and culture and at the end of the project, students have expressed how they view their partners’ country and culture through the final creation of a piece of clothing.
Objectives
Students got to know one another;
Students had to find information about their counterparts’ culture and country;
Students had to develop collaborative team work and cooperative learning skills;
Students had to develop a technical vocabulary in the field of fashion Design and dressmaking;
Students had to improve their communicative skills in English.
Project Process
This project consists of 6 main steps:
- Break ice activities, during which students have known each other, creating padlets on their hometowns and quizzes about the most outstanding landmarks of the geographical area, where they live. In this step, the students of the two e- twinner countries ( Italy and France ) have edited a video on their own, in order to introduce themselves to their partners;
- In this step, after the watching of two introductory videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pEaRa2cVbs https://youtu.be/qGIxb0eCbfU. teachers introduce the main topic of this project and try to get their students involved in the following question: “ What is Fashion to you ?”. To this purpose, teachers have uploaded on the Project Twinspace a Tricider, with which students have had the chance to vote their partners’ opinions, giving their own points of view on the real meaning of fashion and of being fashionable;
- In this step, students have created and proposed different logos for the project. At the end of this creative phase, each drawing has been uploaded on a Tricider, in order to be voted by the other E-twinners and the logo that got most of the votes was chosen as the icon of the present project. This has been another important collaborative and involving activity among partners;
- In this phase, the main activities of the project are planned and arranged. Before starting team research and work, teachers have preferred to divide their students into very balanced groups, mixing students with a good level of English with others having a low level. Activities have been introduced by a video on Fashion designers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtGzjGz3g3
After watching the video, students start thinking about a few fashion designers they would be more interested in. The result is a list of 10 Artists, but they will work only on five, according to the number of teams that are five.
To this purpose, the first Skype video Call is arranged among students, who, in this way, can take part in a draw for choosing their own Fashion Designer, one for each team:

Furthermore, teachers have arranged mixed up groups with French and Italian students working together on their fashion Designers, thanks to Google Drive documents and presentations:

And the final part of this step will foresee the creation and design of 2 dress models for each team, inspired by the Designer’s fashion guidelines of each group;
- In this step, students meet and have the possibility to talk about the fashion designer, they have worked on inside their team, and to present their designs to their partners, thanks to a second Skype Video call:

Since it was very difficult for students to find a collaborative tool for drawing their fashion models together, the teachers made each team create two models, inspired by their own fashion Artist: one designed by the Italian students for the French catwalks, the other one designed by the French students for the Italian catwalks.
- In this step, students have answered some questions in order to evaluate the present project:
