MEETING IN PORTUGAL

  • MEETING IN PORTUGAL

From 12 to 18 December 2021, the first Lerning/Teaching/Training Activity was held in Mem Martins, Portugal. The meeting participants were 53 students and teachers from the partners’ schools. The Portuguese school Agrupamento de Escolas Ferreira de Castro“ hosted the meeting. The activity was about the creation of videos - “Create Enjoyable Videos”.

The digital prompt would trigger the use of the English language and interactions between students from different ages and cultures. Groups of students from all country partners were involved in the activity. As some host students (Portugal) were familiarized with some video tools and had used them successfully in their school projects, they were invited to be the leaders of the workshops, always supervised by the Portuguese partner. The emphasis of the workshops was on the promotion of collaborative work among students, whilst creating digital content. The work was always done in mixed groups, prompting mutual respect, linguistic and cultural interactions among the students.

The physical outcomes were creative, original videos created in different tools. The digital tools that were integrated in this meeting were: FlipaClip, Flipgrid, Kinemaster, and Stop Motion. Students had the chance to use digital tools in their own smartphones and were invited to become creators of content, thus realising the potential they have in their pockets, in their smartphones. Students from Portugal had the chance to share their knowledge in the workshops with the partners, and at the end of the meeting they shared their week experience, and outcomes with some classes in their school.

All students gained confidence in the use of digital instruments suitable for creating educational materials for school and project work. Whilst using digital tools they became more confident about their creative side and acknowledged the importance of being creators of content. Most importantly they have become more knowledgeable about each other's cultures, increasing their respect for the other, turning them into better world citizens. They also developed key social skills - teamwork, creativity, communication skills and information, media and technology literacy.

The cultural programme included visits of Sintra and Lisbon.
