    1.  ACTIVITY INFORMATION

    Subject/Course: Geometry

Name:   All pupils of the class 5°1

    Teacher: Armelle Mandaroux

    Grade Level: 6 th

Topic:  Axis of symmetry of geometrical figures

    Length of Period: 1 lesson

    2.  Expectations or Goals

Pupils will be able to understand what an axis of symmetry is and will know the axis of symmetry of some usual geometrical figures.

    3.  Content

A square has four axis of symmetry: its diagonals and the midperpendiculars of its sides.

A rectangle has two axis of symmetry: the midperpendiculars of its sides.
A disk has an infinity of axis of symmetry.
An equilateral triangle has three axis of symmetry: the midperpendiculars of its sides.
A rhombus has two axis of symmetry: its diagonals.

    4.Description of Activity

Give to the pupils origami papers, pencil, ruler, scissors, protractor, compass.

Ask pupils to list the usual geometrical figures they know then to draw them.

Explain them what an axis of symmetry is and ask them to fold their geometrical figures to find the axis of symmetry.
