    Duration of the project:             01.09.2020 – 31.08.2022

    Objectives of the project:

The objectives of this project are to enhance students’ knowledge on and awareness of sustainable use of ICT devices and improve their employability. Moreover, the project focuses on enhancing skills of teachers.

Project activities support reaching the following aims:

    1. Strengthening students’ abilities to compete on the European labour market due to their increased intercultural competencies
    2. Raising awareness of sustainable development of life and well-being for present and future generations by focussing on energy efficiency and environmentally-friendly recycling of ICT- devices.
    3. Raising awareness of sustainable usage of energy and resources of ICT- devices. Students will familiarize themselves with the topics “power consumption and types of resources that are required when using technical devices”.
    4. Enhancing and strengthening intercultural skills of students and teachers alike by dealing with intercultural topics. Teachers and students will acquire and improve their intercultural competences when regularly cooperating with teachers and students from another country. They will have to adapt to and get used to the other countries’ teaching and learning methods.
    5. Improving English skills of students and teachers; thereby arousing their interest in learning foreign languages
    6. Improving quality of teaching and learning processes by making use of a variety of methods of learning and teaching, in particular digital learning and teaching methods
    7. Raising awareness of European values such as flexibility by free movement of labour, tolerance and non-discrimination
    8. Strengthening students’ and teachers’ ambiguity tolerance and empathy. By enduring learning and studying processes in an international environment, they can develop tolerance towards intercultural differences and learn to cope in an international environment.
    9. Raising motivation of students and identification with their colleges and training
    10. Raising motivation of staff: Members of staff can profit from each other through exposure to new teaching methods and approaches to learning.

    Implementation of project work:

All students will work on three different project units in international teams consisting of German, Estonian and Slovenian students. This will enable them to acquire comprehensive knowledge of project-, time management as well as enhance their social and language skills. Project activities will primarily involve IT students, who will serve as ambassadors of sustainable use of IT devices and will become more environmentally responsible IT-experts.

Students will work on the following project units:

    1. Intercultural studies and self-presentation on European labour market:

Students involved will prepare presentations about their schools and countries to initiate first discussions on intercultural differences among the countries. They will deal with issues such as environmental protection in the countries involved. Students are requested to document intercultural differences they spot between partners and at the end of the project, findings will be presented in a way chosen by students. This module includes workshops on how to present yourself internationally on the labour market.

    2. Digitalisation and sustainability:

Students research energy consumption of IT-related devices in international teams and work on the tasks using online tools in order to create infographics. All results achieved will be presented during a face-to-face meeting and will be made available to the general public. Students will draw up a list of recommendations on how to reduce energy consumption as well as a checklist regarding the reduction of energy footprints.

    3. Recycling of IT-devices:

Students will deal with what (raw) materials are used in IT-devices and learn more about how these are recycled. They will prepare, write, design and assess infographics in international teams. In addition, students who are directly involved in project activities, will become ambassadors for sustainable usage of IT devices/solutions and encourage other students to resort to more sustainable usage of ICT devices/solutions.

    Project approach:

This project will employ an interdisciplinary approach to learning and teaching and we will make use of the method of Content and language integrated learning (CLIL). Blended mobility will be an integral part of the project. This project will contribute to usage of digital learning and teaching by continuously using online tools and workspaces to implement project work. Moreover, teachers will enhance their skills in coaching in teaching method, which supports achieving project aims and cooperation between teachers as they have to prepare assignments together, exchange materials and decide on didactic approaches used in the project.
