The Serpa Pinto General Education Group is a Priority Intervention Education Territory (PIET), located in the county of Cinfães, one of the poorest in the country with a family purchasing power index well below the national average. The group has about 200 employees (100 are teachers) and serves a population of about 1000 students, from pre-school to 9th grade. It also has a Centro Qualifica, with almost 500 registered adults, and has a Learning Support Center, consisting of a ICT Resource Center and a Multideficiency Support Unit, which supports dozens of schools in the Northern region in the Special Education area.
More than 80% of students benefit from financial support to study, with a very large number of pupils with learning difficulties and special educational needs. Currently, the School has Pluriannual Improvement Plan, with three priority intervention areas: 1. School Culture and Pedagogical Leadership; 2. Curricular Management (Autonomy and Flexibility); 3. Partnerships and Community.
